CALEDONIA, Wis. (WRJN) — A police pursuit in Racine County ended in a fatal crash Monday night. An investigation has already been started by the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI).

According to the WI-DOJ, Racine police officers attempted to stop a vehicle involved in an earlier hit-and-run at about 9:03 p.m. The driver failed to comply, leading to a chase that ended when the vehicle crashed into a tree at high speed near the intersection of Four Mile Road and Main Street in Caledonia.

Despite efforts by law enforcement, the driver was pronounced dead at the scene. The officers involved, who were wearing body cameras during the incident, have been placed on administrative leave as per agency policy.

The DCI is leading the investigation with assistance from the Wisconsin State Patrol Technical Reconstruction Unit, Village of Caledonia Police Department, Racine County Medical Examiner’s Office, and a DCI Crime Response Specialist.

Findings will be turned over to the Racine County District Attorney upon completion of the investigation.
