MADISON, Wis. (WRCO) – State Sen. Joan Ballweg is announcing her re-election campaign for the 14th State Senate District in Wisconsin.

With the passage of 2023 Wisconsin Act 94, the 14th District now includes all of Richland and Sauk counties, as well as parts of Adams, Columbia, Dane, Juneau, and Vernon counties.

Ballweg, a Republican who was first elected to the state Senate in 2000, spent 16 years prior to that in the state Assembly.

“I’m excited to run for re-election in the 14th Senate District,” Ballweg said. “Since first being elected, I’ve worked to bring common-sense, rural values to Madison, fought for policies that make real, positive change in our state, spent countless hours traveling the district to connect with constituents and learned what matters most to our communities.”

Ballweg and her husband own Ballweg Implement, an agricultural and lawn equipment dealership in Waupun. Ballweg, who lives in Markesan, said she would move in order to continue serving the 14th District. Redistricting moved her home into the same district as Republican Sen. John Jagler of Watertown.

“While serving in Madison, I’ve found some of the best policy ideas come from back home,” Ballweg said. “I’m proud to champion causes that directly affect the 14th Senate District.”

No other candidates have announced their bids yet for the 14th District. The new 14th District includes Sen. Howard Marklein of Spring Green, who isn’t up for re-election until 2026. Marklein has not yet announced his plans for the future.

The new maps placed six incumbent state senators and 15 representatives in the Assembly in the same district ahead of this fall’s partisan elections.
